Near Dark Bootleg Tape 1990-ish (1:13:00)
This is a recording that was never released. I dubbed it from a tape my friend had of the studio session, hence the name "Bootleg". The music is live in the studio, no "tracking" and shows some new direction the band was heading at the time.
And that is me in the white shirt with my fist pumped...LOL.

First of all, this is not about the movie Near Dark, however, the band did get the name from the movie.
Near Dark was a rock band in Austin, TX that began around 1989 and disbanded in 1992. Certianly one of the best bands in Austin at the time. Their music lives on. I still love hearing it.
My UT college friends and I had the best time drinkin' pitchers of Shiner at the Back Room, headbanging and playing air guitar at the front of stage, just having a blast. It was also great to see them on 6th Street at the legendary, but now defunct, Black Cat. To this day, I am surprised they never made it out of Austin. The music was perfect for the time. Not quite metal, not quite grunge. Mark was a mezmerizing performer on stage and Phil just played and looked the part of a lead guitarist. Quentin was a wild-ass bass player. After each song he'd slap everybody's hand in the front row. Man, I remember after one time, I thought he broke my hand. Joey was the "what me worry" guy, just providing the thunderous beat.
All the band members are doing different things. Mark went to school and received his masters degree and might be working in public policy. Joey is still playing the drums. Quentin is working on a music degree. Phil moved to Dallas years back.
They were featured in my student film project called Tombstone Envy. They are the band rockin' out on TV.
